Sun and Moon

We drove down to Foley and Gulf Shores this afternoon. Just enjoyed the ride; didn't take any pictures of the beach. Admired many colorful houses on stilts with funny names, like "Sandy Castle" and "End of the Rhodes," and drove back home. On the way home, while stopped at a traffic light, I looked up and saw ... a sundog! I'd never seen one before, but knew what they were thanks to some friends on Flickr. It was very bright and pretty for several minutes, then began fading.

And, to top it off, on the way home from church tonight, we saw the moon rising - a big, pretty orangey-yellow, almost full moon! We missed seeing it full, because of rain and clouds here, but this was beautiful!

Three Beautiful Things

A baby laughing

A cat purring

Rain falling when I'm inside, warm and dry

Bonus: a special email like the one I posted here a few minutes ago!

"Lord, prop us up on our leanin' side"

I got this in an email. I've seen it before, maybe you have, too, but it's worth seeing again, and thinking about.

"Every time I'm asked to pray, I think of the old fellow who always prayed, 'Lord, prop us up on our leanin' side.' After hearing him pray that prayer many times, someone asked him why he prayed that prayer so fervently.

He answered, 'Well sir, you see, it's like this......I got an old barn out back. It's been there a long time; it's withstood a lot of weather; it's gone through a lot of storms, and it's stood for many years. It's still standing...but one day I noticed it was leaning to one side a bit. So I went and got some pine poles and propped it up on its leaning side so it wouldn't fall..

Then I got to thinking about that and how much I was like that old barn. I've been around a long time...I've withstood a lot of life's storms. I've withstood a lot of bad weather in life, I've withstood a lot of hard times, and I'm still standing too. But I find myself leaning to one side from time to time, so I like to ask the Lord to prop us up on our leaning side, 'cause I figure a lot of us get to

leaning at times.

Sometimes we get to leaning toward anger, leaning toward bitterness, leaning toward hatred, leaning toward cussing, leaning toward a lot of things that we shouldn't. So we need to pray,

'Lord, prop us up on our leaning side, so we will stand straight and tall again, to glorify the Lord.''

* * * * * * * * * * * *

If you stare at the photo of the barn for a second you'll see who will help us stand straight and tall again...Do You See HIM?

Pass this on to others who might need Proppin' Up

The pond is frozen!

We have been living here more than six and a half years, and it is the first time we have seen the pond frozen! We're way down in south Alabama, USA, near the Gulf Coast! It was 19 degrees Fahrenheit when I woke up at 7:00 this morning.

Three Beautiful Things

The sparkle of mica in the road on a sunny day. It looks like diamonds in the highway!

Flocks of birds flying - the organized lines and "Vs" of geese and pelicans, and the abstract amoeba-ish wavering of small birds zigzagging back and forth.

Hot apple pie on a cold winter night!

Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Whatsoever things are lovely ...

Many of my LiveJournal friends are doing a meme called "Three Beautiful Things," and I think it's a good idea. I'll aim for doing it once a week; I don't think I can keep up with daily, as many others are doing. Just the act, the conscious decision to seek special little joys or moments of beauty, even in ordinary, everyday things. may help me improve my attitude from grumpy to joyful, and to be grateful for the little gifts that God gives us every day.

1. Playing with my two-year-old granddaughter and watching her mind grow and expand as she learns new things every day.

2. Brass Christmas tree ornaments catching the sunlight, and twirling in the breeze of the ceiling fan, throwing light all over the room. (We'll start taking down our Christmas decorations tomorrow, now that we're back from visiting family.)

3. Little birds, wrens or sparrows I think, hopping and chirping in the shrubbery outside the window.

Philippians 4:8 "Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things."

Crazy Love in Action, formerly The Ark Tour

At the beauty shop the other day, I read an old issue of Ladies Home Journal. In it was an article about a family who sold their home and travel around the country in an RV, speaking at churches and serving in ministries, following the Lord's leading. I looked up their website and blog, and I think it's fascinating! You might want to take a look:

There is a direct link to it on the right side of my blog, in my friends' blogs. It is called "Our Blog."
