A lovely Thanksgiving weekend!

Our older son and his wife visited us for the holiday. We had ham (the menfolk don't care for turkey), sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, salad, rolls, coffee, iced tea, and delicious homemade chocolate pie brought by my daughter-in-law!

They had driven down that morning, so after dinner at midday, they needed a rest. That night we played a board game called Joker (similar to Parcheesi and Aggravation, with teams, and cards and marbles).

Friday, they wanted to go to the beach (about an hour's drive from our house), so we all got in the car. We ate at the Original Oyster House in Gulf Shores and looked around in the gift shops right there beside it. Then on to the beach, where the "kids" walked in the sand along the Gulf and husband and I stayed on the boardwalk. There were a surprising number of people on the beach - families, and young people playing volleyball. Not many in the water. Yellow flags were flying, so there must have been a strong undercurrent. Back home, we ate leftovers and played Joker again, after son helped husband get the Christmas decorations down from the attic.

They got up early and left soon after breakfast this morning, after hubby helped them fill a bag of satsumas from our tree, to take with them. They wanted to get back home in time to watch the Iron Bowl (Univ. of Alabama against Auburn Univ. football) with friends. (Don't ask, Auburn was destroyed, and we're Auburn fans. :-( In fact, Auburn was wiped out before the game even began; they've had a lousy season this year.)

We'll have a quiet Christmas this year unless we get together with our younger son and his family. Older son and wife will be with her family, and I suspect that younger son will be with his wife's mother. Her dad passed away suddenly a few weeks ago, and this will be a very hard holiday for all of them.

Thankful for loving family relationships

I have two sons and two daughters-in-law, both of whom are very loving and gracious to me, and I love them dearly. I have two granddaughters, and their "other" grandmother and I get along very well. We enjoy one another's company and respect each other. Neither of us tries to outdo the other in our granddaughters' affections. I hear many complaints from friends about their in-laws, and I am very grateful that our family has no complaints, only love!

Blogger compaint

I wanted to change my picture for Thanksgiving. I don't like the way this turned out. The picture is too small. I re-sized it all I could without distorting the image. ************ Editing: Thanks to Virginia's encouragement, I'm happier now! I posted the photo in full size, and it's a little larger than I wanted, but I'll take it. I also changed to Simple template.

God is in control

The people (of the United States) have spoken; the President was reelected. I was hoping for a different outcome, but we must carry on, and be faithful to Almighty God, Our Father. May His will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.

The following came in an email; I didn't write it but I agree:

1. The Bible will still have all the answers. 2. Prayer will still work. 3. The Holy Spirit will still move. 4. God will still inhabit the praises of His people. 5. There will still be God-anointed preaching. 6. There will still be singing of praise to God. 7. God will still pour out blessings upon His people. 8. There will still be room at the Cross. 9. Jesus will still love you. 10. Jesus will still save the lost when they come to Him.

I urge, then, first of all, that petitions, prayers, intercession and thanksgiving be made for all people— for kings and all those in authority, that we may live peaceful and quiet lives in all godliness and holiness.” -1 Timothy 2:1-2

Photo Friday - At Play

Playground at Big Daddy's, originally uploaded by Fancy Horse.

Another pic from Big Daddy's. There was a very large play area, covered in sand, which drew children like ants to a picnic!

Word verification required

Unfortunately, I have been inundated with spam comments on my posts, old and new. Up to 20 or more a day! They are "Anonymous" and come to my email, but do not appear on my blog unless I approve them. There have been so many they have filled up my email inbox.

I have taken the step of making my blog accessible to other blog writers only, hoping this will help. After a few weeks, I will try opening it again and see what happens.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Photo Friday - Evening

On Fish River, originally uploaded by Fancy Horse.

We had dinner at Big Daddy's, on Fish River, at an outside table where we had a good view of the river and the large playground for children. It was a good meal, most everything fried, though, so not very healthy. A couple of families came by boat and docked at the pier while we were watching. A very peaceful and pleasant scene!
