Troubled America

It is with a heavy heart that I reflect on the tragic events of the last few days, the killings of Alton Sterling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Philando Castile in the twin cities area of Minnesota, and the attack which killed five police officers in Dallas, Texas. It is getting worse, not better. I remember Rodney King's plea, "Why can't we all just get along?" Why indeed?

I am sharing the following, which was a Facebook post by the College and Career pastor at our church:

"When words fail because our own words aren't enough, look to God's words...

Put on then, as God's chosen ones, holy and beloved, compassionate hearts, kindness, humility, meekness, and patience, bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against another, forgiving each other; as the Lord has forgiven you, so you also must forgive. And above all these put on love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony. And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body. And be thankful. Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
-Colossians 3:12-17"

Lord, forgive us for failing to love, respect, and honor all men and women, whom You created in Your image. Bring us back to You in repentance and humility, and bring us to each other in love, forgiveness, and reconciliation. Amen
