Early Lesson in Sacrificial Giving
October 21, 2013

My 2 year old granddaughter's shoebox gift (Operation Christmas Child) was a true sacrifice, albeit not a willing one. She really wanted to color in the coloring book meant for the child who lives far, far away!

Overly indulgent grandma (me) quietly offered to her daddy (my son) to let her have it and I could easily buy another one for the shoebox. Wisely, my son said, "No, she has to learn." Quietly and gently he explained to her that she has many coloring books, but the little girl who lives far, far away has no coloring books or toys. Unconvinced, my granddaughter left the room in tears.

Later, after peace and calm were restored, she happily helped her sister and me pack the shoeboxes. I added pictures and notes, and together we prayed over them yesterday.

The following is in response to Mark Love's blog, unfinished (a woodworker's blog):

Prayer is a wonderful gift that God has given to each of us, even me, that we can approach Him, that we can come into His Presence just as we are, full of fear and worry, lacking faith and love. He will accept us just as we are, and will give us wisdom, the peace that passes understanding, joy, love, unity with Him, salvation, forgiveness, reconciliation, understanding, blessing, faith. He makes it possible for us to do everything He has required of us. “Everyone who asks receives; who seeks finds; and to he who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:8

With permission, I am posting a link to a friend's blog post on the subject of salvation:
Thank you, Martin.
The Maker of all human beings (GOD) is recalling all units manufactured, regardless of make or year, due to a serious defect in the primary and central component of the heart. This is due to a malfunction in the original prototype units code named Adam and Eve, resulting in the reproduction of the same defect in all subsequent units.
This defect has been identified as "Sub-sequential Internal Non-morality," more commonly known as S.I.N., as it is primarily expressed.

Some of the symptoms include:

DANGER: The human being units not responding to this recall action will have to be scrapped in the furnace. The SIN defect will not be permitted to enter Heaven so as to
prevent contamination of that facility. Thank you for your attention!

What does Jesus want for His birthday?

When we think about what to give someone for Christmas or for their birthday, we try to consider what they want. Christmas is the time of year we celebrate Jesus' birthday, His incarnation, His coming into the world in human flesh to live among us, to teach us about the Father, to live a perfect, sinless life, to do wondrous acts of healing and other miracles that show His love and His mastery over His own creation. And to die for us, taking the punishment for our sins, and to rise again as promised, showing His victory over sin and death, proving His divinity, and assuring us eternal life with Him. What does He want from us? Let's take a lesson from the shepherds to whom the news of His birth was first given. Luke 2:15 "So it was, when the angels had gone away from them into heaven, that the shepherds said to one another, “Let us now go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has come to pass, which the Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they came with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 Now when they had seen Him, they made widely known the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all those who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds." Did the shepherds say to each other, "Let's go home and decorate our houses, fight with lights, compete with each other for the most inflatables, have our wives send 120 cards, and clean the house, decorating every room with a different theme tree, and be sure she bakes, bakes, and bakes so our house will be filled with cookies, cakes, and pies as well as turkey dinners and casseroles of every kind!" No? Read again -- "Let us go now to Bethlehem and see!" "When they had seen Him, they made widely known what they had heard and seen." "All who heard it marveled at those things which were told them by the shepherds." Come and see Go and tell ,
Matthew 22:37 Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and great commandment. 39 And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ 40 On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Acts 1:8 "But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.” Micah 6:8 "He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?" John 13:34-35 "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.” Jesus' wish list: Love God Love others Tell others about Him Obey Him Jesus' gift list for us: Forgiveness of sins Eternal life Love Peace Joy Grace Mercy Faith Hope Truth Living water Bread of life etc., etc., etc. Do you get stressed out in December, starting in October? Too much to do, too little time? Stop and consider what Jesus truly wants. Remember Martha and Mary, and choose the better part. (Luke 10:38-41) Adore Him, Obey Him. Philippians 4:7 "and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus."

Good reminder to choose the better part. While I realize it's necessary for us to be practical and to take care of our homes and guests, it as important to take time to sit at the feet of Jesus. I'm too like Martha most of the time.
